BOARD MEMBER POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
President - Provide leadership to the local Chapter consistent with state, regional, and SHRM policy, strategies, and objectives. Effectively operate the Chapter so that the needs of the members are met. Perform other duties as required by the local Chapter's bylaws. Serve as a voting member of the state council. Represent the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 10-15 hours.
President Elect – Assist the President in overseeing all the activities of the chapter. In the absence of the President, performs all the presidential responsibilities. Conduct special projects as assigned by the President. Upon request, assists other officers in performing their responsibilities. Attend (and preside over, if necessary) monthly membership and Board of Directors meetings. Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategy planning for the Chapter. Represent the Chapter in the Human Resources community. This position is also on the PWSHRM Annual Employment Law & HR Summit Committee. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-10 hours.
Secretary - The Secretary maintains a record of the bylaws and prepares minutes of all board of directors’ meetings for approval at the following Board meeting. Maintains the Board calendar. Records the official board of directors vote from annual election. Upon request, assists other officers in performing their responsibilities. Represent the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-7 hours.
Treasurer - The Treasurer is responsible for the financial affairs of the chapter. Prepare financial reports to the Board, arrange the periodic examination and audit of the accounts as may be required by the Board, maintain account balances, provide budgets for each commitee, generate credit card transaction reports for the Chapter each month, file Chapter’s annual tax return and annual report to Virginia SCC, handle processing of vendor invoices and sponsorship payments, and performs other duties as the President may determine. Represent the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-10 hours.
Community Relations - Monitor and evaluate local community activities consistently. Plan events and manage the chapter’s outreach efforts activities. Recommend community service projects the Chapter should support. Provide information to chapter members about local community organizations. Serve as a liaison to local partner organizations. Represents the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-10 hours.
Immediate Past President - Serve as a member of the Board of Directors for a period of one year, immediately following such year of service as President. Advise the president and members of the Board of Directors regarding past practices, general operations, and other matters to assist in the smooth operation of the chapter. Perform special assignments and such other duties as the President may authorize and determine. Represents the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-7 hours.
Membership - Manage the membership function for the Chapter by navigating Chapter and SHRM National databases, and ensure members are designated to our Chapter; Maintain the membership roster. Interact with prospective, new and existing members. Cultivate membership through actvities and preparing membership promotional material. Perform any other duties as appropriate in support of the membership activities of the Chapter. Represents the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-10 hours.
Programs – Plan programs for the monthly chapter meetings, select topics and speakers, contact and follow up with speakers, create and distribute the program agenda, obtain program certification, provide content to Technology and Public Relations Director, record program atendance and perform any other duties as appropriate in support of program activities of the Chapter. Coordinate efforts with other Board members to provide the best offerings for the Chapter membership. Review final preparations for meetings to ensure that meetings run smoothly. Review program evaluations for feedback to be used to plan future events. This position is also on the PWSHRM Annual Employment Law & HR Summit Commitee. Represent the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-7 hours.
Public Relations - Oversee the chapter's marketing and social media activities while maintaining a consistent brand image. Specifically, responsible for engaging our audience with frequent creative social media posts (Facebook and LinkedIn) related to our chapter as well as current HR topics and trends. Encourage member engagement and oversee activity in the PWSHRM forum. Create graphics to be used in chapter marketing campaigns. This position is also on the PWSHRM Annual Employment Law & HR Summit Committee. Represent the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-10 hours.
Sponsorship - Seek out and solicit companies to sponsor PWSHRM monthly meetings, the annual employment law and HR summit, and other special events. Manage the contract process, payments, acquire slides and advertisements from the company sponsors, meet and greet sponsors at SHRM meetings and events, and introduce sponsors to the Board and other PWSHRM members. This position is on the PWSHRM annual Law Summit Commitee. Represent the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-7 hours.
Technology - Manage the chapter's technology programs. Develop and maintain the Chapter's website and manage Google Apps for internal board collaboration and communication. Create, post, and distribute chapter program communications. Represent the Chapter in the human resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 10-15 hours per month.
