BEACON for English Language and Literacy is a nonprofit organization based in Prince William County that empowers adult English Language Learners (ELLs) to achieve their educational and employment goals. Founded in 1992 by Sister Eileen Heaps of the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia, BEACON offers affordable English and Citizenship classes.

Our secular, community-based program serves more than 500 adult learners annually from over 50 countries. We offer eight levels of English instruction—from Pre-Literacy to Advanced Grammar and Composition—as well as Citizenship preparation classes. Courses are delivered in three 12-week sessions and three 8-week English Learning Circles (English conversation practice) sessions each year. We also provide one-on-one tutoring when possible to meet specific learner needs. All classes are taught by volunteers.

Ed Brzychcy, Founder and President, Lead from the Front

Organizational culture is a powerful uniting force that brings people together through a shared purpose. Ed speaks to how it can be created intentionally–or passively–and describes best practices he has learned over a decade of consulting in helping organizations build more committed, collaborative, and cohesive teams.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

•Orchestrating and Aligning Organizational Culture:
Attendees will understand how personal motivation and group success provide a common ground for building successful teams.

•Bridging Strategy and Execution: Ed relates case studies and research to the audience, providing meaningful insights that help organizations identify gaps and develop strategies to bridge them.

•Building Common Purpose: Attendees learn how to create commonality among their teams, limit organizational divides such as siloing and methodologies that hinder collaboration, and establish a common purpose within their organizations.

Ed Brzychcy
is a consultant, executive coach, and speaker specializing in leadership development, organizational design, and strategic implementations, working with middle-market-sized companies across various industries. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2011 as a staff sergeant and infantry squad leader after serving for twelve years, spending three years deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received his MBA from Babson College in 2016, where he now serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice in Organizational Behavior. He lives in Waltham, MA, and enjoys traveling and flying UAVs.
